The provided maps illustrate how the museum was transformed after some improvements from 1957 to 2007.
Overall, the area witnessed significant reconfiguration and greater versatility, particularly on the east side, with the most noticeable alterations being the addition of educational and commercial facilities, and the development in transport links, although there was a reduction in greenspace to make way for the construction of parking lot.
Looking at the maps in more detail, surrounding the center building, most of trees were chopped down, to make room for the introduction of a car park that located on the right side. Similarly, the road formerly linked the main road and the building was demolished, while in the top right-hand conner, the garden remained unchanged.
Another striking development is the relocation of the museum store-room built in the bottom right-hand cornner, which was moved to the left side of the building and transformed to a shop. Moreover, at the top, the national history exhibition underwent a conversion into two distinct areas, namely the special exhibitions and the education centre, which were situated close to one another. In the heart of the structure, a large local history room was added. What is more, at the bottom, the entrance hall was relocated to adjacent to the new museum shop and a reception area was built on the hall original position. The final modification is the the cafe, which was built on the original site of the former museum store-room built in 1957.
