The maps illustrate how the village of Pebbleton has changed over the last 20 years.
Overall, Pebbleton has experienced several developments, particularly in recreational and community facilities, while some original features have remained unchanged. The village has become more modern with the addition of footpaths, a community centre, tennis courts and a children’s playground.
Twenty years ago, the northern part of the village contained a lighthouse, an old fort and a small group of houses near the sea. There was also a film studio located to the west of the village beside the coast. In the centre, Old Fort Road ran east to west, with a playing field situated nearby. To the south of the river were a school and many trees connected by Coast Road and a road bridge.
At present, the old fort has been removed and replaced by a children’s playground. A new community centre has been built near the lighthouse, while tennis courts have been added beside Lighthouse Road. The number of houses in the northeast has increased considerably. In addition, new footpaths now connect the coast road to the northern area. However, several features have remained the same, including the film studio, the playing field, the school, the bridge and most roads. The river and coastline have also stayed largely unchanged.
