The diagram depicts the establishing process of an igloo.
Overall, the construction of an igloo encompasses 8 steps in total, which can be divided into two main stages being frame establishment and finishing. The process commences with the collection of building material and ends with the drilling of air holes.
Regarding the establishment of the structure, this stage starts with builders using a saw to slice hot packed snow into snow blocks with different sizes, which serve as the main building material for the igloo. Then, igloo builders assemble large snow blocks in a circle at the bottom of the structure to form the foundation. After finishing establishing the base, smaller blocks are used to construct the top of the building. These blocks are arranged in a way that gives the building a hemisphere shape. Finally, in order to finish the primitive structure, a block of snow is placed at the top of the building.
After the structure is completed, the building is subsequently covered with a layer of loose snow, which will stifle the snow blocks. Once the coat layer is finished, a tunnel is constructed at the entrance of the igloo in order to retain the heat and ward off the severe weather conditions. Finally, builders then drill holes around the igloo with the help of a drilling machine to create ventilation for the building.
