The flow chart illustrates the desalination process, which involves purifying seawater to make it safe for drinking.
The process consists of several steps that transform seawater into pure and usable water.
The procedure begins with the intake of saline water from the sea. This water is then directed to a pre-treatment filter, followed by a membrane, which acts as a sieve, removing impurities and salt. The purified water passes through the membrane with increased pressure and enters the post-treatment phase, where it is treated with lime, chloride, and fluorides. Finally, the treated water is stored and supplied to the merged water supply unit.
Meanwhile, the contaminants from the pre-treatment filter are redirected back to the marine water through a filter backwash. The highly concentrated saltwater is also directed back into the ocean.
