Overall, Shakefield has undergone remarkable modernization marked by the addition of numerous leisure and residential facilities such as a tennis court, a yacht marina, holiday homes, and a golf course. Collectively, these developments have transformed the town from a traditional fishing community into a tourism-oriented settlement with an enhanced residential character.
In 1995, the north-eastern part of the town consisted of farmland, which could be reached via the right-hand branch of the main road. This area has been replaced by a golf course and a tennis court, catering to the recreational needs of Shakefield’s residents. Situated just south of this structure, a public park which had been filled with trees was redeveloped into a site for holiday homes, accompanied by the renovation of the nearby hotel and built a new car park to promote tourism.
Turning to the north-west, the original residential area has been significantly expanded, featuring additional side roads to accommodate more housing. While the former sports ground along the main road has given way to a restaurant. Moreover, new routes have been constructed – one leading to a cafe and another providing access to an apartment block, which occupied the site of the former fishmarket. At the same time, the fishing area at the southern end of the town has been transformed into a yacht marina.
