the diagram illustrates the stages in the life cycle of a silkworm.
Overall, the process is cyclical, beginning with mating of adult moths and ending with a mature moth capable of reproduction. The entire cycle takes approximately 31.5-38 days to complete.
Initially, the process commences when a female moth deposits eggs after mating. Each egg takes 10-12 days to hatch into a larva. After about 3-4 days of hatching, the larva enter four subsequent stages of moulting, which lasts 17-20 days. During this period, the larva grows significantly in size before developing into a ripe silkworm. Subsequently, the ripe silkworm starts spinning silk filaments.
Following this, the cocoon stage occurs, lasting for 10-12 days. The silkworm undergoes metamorphosis, developing wings. Once the development is complete, the moth emerges from the cocoon. Eventually, the moth becomes fully developed adult at which point it is capable of repeating the cycle by mating and laying a new batch of eggs.
