The figure is tell us about the metamorphosis process of a Lady Butterfly.
The metamorphosis phase consis of 4 stages from eggs until adult butterfly.
First the adult butterfly lays egg with size of pin head. After several days, the egg will hatch into a larva – well known as caterpillar -, which has black/purple color with yellow-green stripes. The caterpillar will eat leaves and grow bigger. After become adult enough, the caterpillar will look for a safe place and produce a thick shell to cover its body. In this form, the caterpillar isolated and hanging itself in a strong branch, it become reddish brown pupa which called chrysalis. In this phase, pupa doesnt eat and do nothing. After Several days, the pupa emerges and the beautiful adult butterfly come out from the thick pupa shell. The butterfly will search its mate and will reproduce eggs so the life cycle of the butterfly will continue
