The given bar chart provides information on the proportion of deaths from heart disease and cancer and it also depicts the percentage of calories consumed from processed foods in 12 countries.
A paradoxical pattern is observed in the graph. The percentage of heart and cancer diseases is highest in Hungary at 90%, whereas the percentage of calorie consumption is least at 9%. Eight in 10 Americans are suffering from heart or cancer disease, followed by Belgium, Sweden, and Finland, where the proportion remains between 60% and 70%. Moreover, cancer and heart patients remain in the range of 45% and 55% in Portugal, Venezuela, and Greece. Lastly, less than 20% of people suffer from such diseases in Mexico, Korea, Thailand, and Laos.
On the other hand, calorie consumption from processed foods is highest in Laos (90%), followed by Thailand (70%), Korea (59%), Mexico (48%), and Greece (37%). Moreover, the intake of calories from processed foods in countries such as Hungary, the USA, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, and Venezuela is in the range of 10% to 30%.
Ironically, the countries where fewer calories are consumed show a higher proportion of cancer and cardiac diseases.
