The diagram illustrates how seawater is treated to become drinkable water through a process known as desalination.
Overall, there are 7 steps in the procedure, in which it relies on reverse osmosis and a membrane unit, along with pretreatment and post-treatment steps to make seawater drinkable.
The initial step is to collect seawater through several pipes. Then, it is screened for large impurities and foreign objects. Next, the water is moved to filters that pretreat the water, ready for the main treatment.
The next stage would involve techniques such as reverse osmosis and using a unit made out of membrane to take out salt and other impurities from the water. After this stage, the treated water is then processed one more time so that it meets the standard of drinking water, then the final product, which is clean water, is stored in a supply tank. Finally, outlet tunnels are utilized to move the concentrated seawater safely back to the ocean.
