To begin with, raw water is extracted from natural sources and undergoes extensive filtration to eliminate contaminants, followed by purification using ozone and UV radiation. After that, the purified water is stored in clean tanks before being filled into sterilised containers. Following this, the bottles are tightly capped, sealed, and labelled with product information. Finally, the finished products are packed into boxes and transported to retail stores.
In regard to production and sales, China recorded the largest volumes, with domestic production increasing from 3,200 million litres in 2010 to 5,450 million in 2020, while sales rose from 2,900 to 5,100 million litres. Meanwhile, the United States followed as the second-largest producer, increasing its output from 2,800 to 4,080 million litres and sales from 2,550 to 3,850 million litres.
In contrast, Brazil, Germany, and India operated at significantly lower figures. India experienced the fastest production growth, almost doubling from 600 to 1,180 million litres, accompanied by a sales rise from 500 to 1,020 million litres. Germany was the lowest overall producer in 2020 at 1,150 million litres. Ultimately, across all evaluated countries, production volumes consistently exceeded total sales.
