The diagram illustrates the water cycle occuring in two different environments such as forested and urban areas. Overall, although precipitation occurs in both areas, forested land allows greater infiltration, evaporation and transpiration, whereas urban areas experience increased surface runoff and erosion.
First and foremost, precipitation occuring in forested areas results in a healthy runoff. The water precisely infiltrates through both permeable topsoil and less permeable subsoil on rock, reaching water table smoothly. Furthermore, it reaches the baseflow when it begins to transpirate as well as evaporate accurately to nature requirements.
Conversely, in urban areas, the process is slightly deteriorated and not as effective. Primarily, following percipitation, an increased as well as polluted runoff happens. Reduced infiltration as well as reduced evaporation happens; in particular, water never properly reaches watertable which causes redused baseflow. Furthermore, reduced transpiration occurs. Additionally, polluted runoff increases gradually. Finally, since the issues occur, the soil experiences increased erosion and reduced baseflow.
