The given pictures illustrate the changes that have taken place in Liverton docks from 1980 to the present day.
Looking at the illustration, it is immediately evident that some old features such as the warehouse cranes and ships had all disapper, whereas other such as the river and the coast remained unchanged. Additionally, over the period, the docks areas had undergone dramatic transformation with several large changes including infrastructure, housing and public amenities.
In 1980, the docks were mainly industrial, with many warehouse and cranes on both sides of the river, along with several ships. This area was used for industry and shipping. Today all of these feature have gone. Only one ship remains and has been turned into a ship museum.
By now, several new buildings have been added. On the upper side, there is now an education centre, a sailing club and a kid’s playing area. On the lower side, the old warehouses were replaced with a hotel modern apartments, and a parking area. A flood barrier was also constructed across the river to prevent flooding, and a river walk was added to improve accessibility and scenery
