Given is the diagram depicting the process of manufacturing biologically obtained fuel – ethanol. Overall, there are nine main stages of the production process, which consist of five physical and four chemical steps. It is important to note that the process is cyclical.
The first step of the manufacture includes a naturally occurring biological process – photosynthesis, where plants and trees consume carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and grow. The nest stage is harvesting plants. Before collecting cellulose for processing, it is important to implement the pre-processing stage. This will be the last part of the physical step.
Now there is a chemical step taking place. In the following stage, we process cellulose in order to extract sugars. To obtain the main product, ethanol, microfibers are mixed with sugars from the previous step. After the manufacturing process of the main product is finished, ethanol is then used as a fuel in cars, trucks, and plains. The aforementioned transportation machines produce emissions with carbon dioxide, which in turn is used as an energy source for plants, meaning that the process is cyclic.
