The diagrams highlight the differences between two road tunnels constructed in separate cities of Australia.
Overall, it is evident that both tunnels were built to improve passage of traffic through unusual situations. The first diagram illustrates a tunnel that passes beneath a bridge over water, while the latter illustrates a tunnel that passes below the surface in order to avoid heavy traffic.
The costs involved in the establishment of both tunnels are high. The second tunnel required an expenditure of approximately twice the cost of the first. Consequently, the second tunnel was constructed in a quarter of the time it took for the underwater tunnel to be completed. In addition, the tunnel passing beneath the traffic extends for a distance of 3.6 km, almost twice as long as the tunnel beneath the bridge.
Furthermore, the tunnel in the second image is wider and is able to accommodate a greater amount of vehicles passing through it. This tunnel also had to be dug deeper than the first which likely contributed to the higher cost of 1.1 billion dollars.
