The maps illustrate the changes that took place in the Sawry District neighbourhood between 1920 and 2020.
Overall, the area experienced significant development, particularly in terms of new buildings and educational facilities. By 2020, Sawry District had become a much more modern and urbanised neighbourhood.
In 1920, the western side of the area contained the Tulebug Bros. Cannery, which was demolished and replaced by the Yang Office Complex by 2020. The Prestwich Primary School in the southwest was converted into the Lonoco Petrol Station. In the northeast, several houses were removed, while new apartment buildings were constructed in the southeast along Oak Avenue.
In addition, Oak Avenue was developed with two shops and more apartments, and many houses were relocated to the southeastern part of the neighbourhood. There was also a green area in 1920, but by 2020 many trees had been cut down and a reconstructed Prestwich Primary School had been built there. Meanwhile, Miller’s Creek and Elmwood Lake remained unchanged throughout the period.
