The maps depict a library in 1975 and its current floor plan. Overall, the changes to the library can be characterized by the addition and removal of certain features.
In the top half of the library, from left to right, stood the books and magazines shelves, the entranceway with stair access, and another two shelves with new books, all lining up the northern wall. The shelf in the top left corner has been replaced with new computers, while the bookshelf next to the entry is replaced with wheeling access, ensuring the accessibility of the library.
In the middle, there used to be five bookshelves—one larger than the others—to the left, across from a library desk. At present, while the desk stays unchanged, the shelves have been replaced by a coffee table surrounded by two couches. Additionally, four shared areas are added to the left of the desk, further enhancing a sense of community within the structure.
Lining the southern wall were, from left to right, bookshelves, a toilet, and children’s book. These features, coupled with the shaded areas adjacent to the bookshelves, remain unaltered, although the shaded areas next to children’s books have been removed.
Overall, the library has become more digitized, accessible, and community-based: computers, wheelchair access, and shared spaces have been added, whereas a significant number of bookshelves have been removed.
