The diagram displays the life cycle of the silkworm and the procedures of making silk fabric from silk thread. In general, there are two main stages which are harvesting silk cocoon and weaving the silk yarn.
The silk yarn is produced from silkworm cocoons. Therefore, before knowing the way to harvest the cocoon there are a cycle of silkworm that needs to be understood. It is started from adult worths lying their eggs in mulberry leafs. After 10 days, the eggs are transformed into silk worms. For about 4-6 weeks, the worms will start to make threads which wrapped their selves into cocoons. It needs 4-8 days to make the perfect cocoon. The cocoons stay 16 days before they change into the young worths and leave their cocoons.
The next step after selecting some good qualities of lefted cocoons, they are putted in boiling water to ease them unwind into silk threads. Continuously, these threads are twisted to make silk yarn. After that, the yarns are dyed with various colours before weaving them into fabrics. The colouring process can also be done after weaving the yarns into fabrics. Finally, the production of silk fabrics are finished and can be used to make some clothes.
