The given diagram compares the present water supply system in Australia, and what the system will look like in the future.
Overall, the most noticeable change between the two systems is waste water at the present to the river but in the future this type of water will be purified by the water treatment plant and used in the city.
Looking at the present water supply system plan, the dam or storage is transferred to the city, where it is used in shops, factories and households. And from the city, storm water follows the pipes and goes straight into the river; whereas the waste water is sent to the water treatment plant, where it is processed before it is safe to be released into the river.
Regarding the future water supply system, which shows how the water system will operate in the future, it can be seen that the storage of pure water in the dam and the planned use of water in the city will not change. However, unlike the present, instead of being pumped directly into the river, storm water will be directed to the treatment plant, where the water will be treated for use in the city. Besides, the waste water will be recycled for use in the city; therefore, there will be no wastewater discharged into the river.
