The charts compare some European countries in terms of their internet users and their contribution in online shopping.
Overall, it is shown that Germany and the UK have the highest number of total internet users in 1995, 2000 and 2004. On the contrary, France, which had one of the lowest number of internet users, contributed to nearly half of the European online shoppings in 2004.
Regarding the total number of internet users, Germany had a noticeable increase from 5 million users in 1995 to 314 million users in 2000, which was the greatest number compared to other countries back at that time. However, Germany’s figure did not stay the same, and the figure declined significantly to just 15 million users by 2004. The UK had a high number of internet users as well. Starting from 16 million individuals in 1995 and reaching 41 million by 2004. Conversely, Switzerland, France and Spain not only had a low number of internet users in the years mentiond, but their figures also experienced quite slight fluctuations. For instance, Switzerland, France and Spain started at 1, 2 and 0.5 million users at 1995 and with a slight rise, reached 4,6 and 2 million users by 2004 repectively.
Looking at the pie chart, it is shown that France contributed to nearly half of the European’s internet shoppings in 2004. Germany, despite of its large number of users, contributed to around one-fifth of internet sales in Europe. Finally, the proportion of Switzerland’s sales were slightly more that Germans, accounts for approximately 27% of total Europeans sales.
