The first chart shows the amount spent by parents in Britain on their children’s sports from 2008 to 2014 while the second chart provides information about the number of kids who participated im football, athletics, and swimming in Britain over the same time period. Units are measured in pounds and millions respectively.
Overall, there was a significant increase in the sports expenditure over the given years whereas football was the most popular option among the children (in all years).
To begin with, 20 pounds on an average were spent by parents on their children’s monthly sports expenditure, however the graph experienced a moderate increase till the very last year (ranging between 30-35 pounds average in 2014).
In terms of participation, football was the most liked option with almost 8-9 million children participating in it (throughout the six-year period). In contrast, athletics was the least popular in 2008, however a dramatic increase could be seen after 2010, rising to 5 million children practicing it. Lastly, swimming started just under 2.5, but witnessed a moderate growth over the years and ended up having around 4 million participants in 2014.
