The given two pie charts illustrate energy consumption for different sectors and emissions of greenhouse gas by those sectors in an average Australian household.
Overall, most of the energy consumption was for heating and water heating, where greenhouse gas emissions occur most from water heating and other appliances. Cooling purposes require the least energy, and it also emits the least greenhouse gas.
Australian people mainly used energy for heating and water heating purposes, at 42% and 30% respectively. Although greenhouse gas emissions from heating are only 15%, water heating produces an average of 32% of greenhouse gas. Lighting and refrigeration use only 4% and 7% of electricity but produce 2 times the greenhouse gas compared to their usage. The cooling sector only used 2% of total household energy, and it also emits the least percentage of greenhouse gas, at 3% of the total emission. Other appliances are responsible for almost two times the greenhouse gas emissions compared to their usage.
