The given graph illustrated the percentage of Canadian students who learnt several foreign languages at school from 2006 untill 2014. Overall, both plunging and rising trends were seen, while some languages remained stable through each year. The most popular second language used to be French with a number of near 30% on the whole time period after a constant fluctuation.
Taking the rising trends first, Spanish language climbed by 5% from 2006 to 2011, as long as in 2011 the trend began to drop. The other example was Chinese with a change of 5% during 4 years since 2006, however, there was a sharp rise untill 2014, and the percentage doubled up to more than 10%.
Especially dramatic was a decline in the Japanese trend, when the starting point stayed at the near the highest position, unless the fall to 15% in 2014 and it became the third popular choice made by students. The similar thing happened to German language, as the result slightly decreased and became the least popular option.
