The given diagram shows how used glass is recycled, by undergoing 5 main processes, collection, purification, fining, cullet melting, and reformation. Disposed glass is first collected through recycling bins and is transported to allocated centers to be thoroughly sorted.
After proper collection, the collected glass is purified in 2 rounds. Glass is first sorted and cleaned to remove visible debris and other redundant waste material with human supervision, and is passed through a glass crusher to undergo fining, producing finely crushed glass. The glass debris is then purified a second time through an optoelectronic system, utilising suction pipes to remove leftover biodegradable waste and magnets to attract metal debris present. The collective purification process produces purified cullet and is often externally monitored by cameras instead of in-person supervision.
Lastly, the purified cullet is melted through a furnace with temperatures exceeding 1000 degree celcius. The molten glass is finally reformed back to proper glass bottles, and factory sealed before distributing to consumers.
