The pie charts illustrates the sales distribution of 5 different genres of books by a bookseller from 1972 to 2012.
Overall, the shares of sales of all types of books were intially relatively equal, but gradually got polarized at the end. Additionally, the percentage of adult and children’s fiction novels sold withnessed an upward trend, while the opposite was true for biography, travel and other genres.
In 1972, the sales figures of the adult fiction, children’s fiction and biography all standed at 20% of the total sales, followed closed by Travel publication at 15%. Meanwhile, a quarter of the sales was the figure for others types of books, making up the highest distribution.
Subsequently, the sales of adult witnessed a sustantial surge by 25 percentage point to 45% in 2012. Similarly, children’s fiction books also gained more popularity, gradually increasing to 25% at the end of the period. In constrast, Travel publication and others book types experienced a decrease. While the figure for other genres fell without raise by by half at the end of the period, the share of biography sold had an increase of 8 percentage point before landing at 10%.
