The line chart illustrates the percentages of people in different age groups in China between 1960 and 2050.
Overall, the figures for the youngest age groups gradually decrease while the proportions for the other two categories witness a reverse trend.
The decreasing category constituted the highest amount with around 45% at the beginning. However, the population has declined at a relative higher rate until the present year and it is speculated that this movement will continue in the future years. Consequently, the number of inhabitants in this age group will be the lowest by 2050.
Concerning the other groups, the percentages of people from age 15 to 64 initially accounted for a rough 40% and then increased significantly, overtaking the number of young people and hitting its maximum of 70% in 2020 before plunging. The eldest group, which are residents above 65, comprises only about 5% in 1960 and slightly grew the number up to 2010. A surge is then predicted to happen, converging with the youngest age group.
