The line graph illustrates the percentage of university graduates from several Southeast Asian countries, such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand, who pursued postgraduate studies overseas between 2015 and 2023.
From the attached data, it can be seen that Malaysia is the country from the list that has most consistently been at the top of this graphic. It has consistently had the highest percentage of eight consecutive years and it has also almost always experienced gradual improvement each two years, with only once slightly decline in percentage.
In 2015, Malaysia had the highest proportion at 15%, followed by Thailand at 12%. Indonesia and Vietnam recorded lower percentages, at 8% and 5% respectively. Two years later, all four countries experienced increases. Malaysia rose to 18%, Thailand to 13%, Indonesia to 10%, and Vietnam to 8%.
By 2019, the upward continued. Malaysia reached 22%, while Thailand increased slightly to 14%. Indonesia and Vietnam also grew, standing at 13% and 12% respectively. Meanwhile, in 2021, Malaysia saw a small decline to 20%, and Indonesia fell to 11%, while Thailand remained unchanged at 14%, and Vietnam continued to rise to the same level.
In 2023, the data increased again across all countries. Malaysia climbed to 25%, Vietnam rose significantly to 19%, Indonesia recovered to 16%, and Thailand increased slightly to 15%.
