The bar chart compares the degree of air pollution caused by electricity production, transport and industry from four nations, including American, China, Japan and Australia in 2011.
Overall, electricity production caused air pollution in the least in comparison to other remaining components in all given countries, except for Australia where it took the lead. In addition, China was the most polluted nation with all mentioned pollution sources seen at the highest level.
Looking first at America and China, these countries had greater air pollution. In America, transport was the main air pollution source, causing approximately 55 ppm, higher than by industry at almost 40 ppm and electricity production at 30 ppm. However, China witnessed a different trend with the highest air pollution from industry by 80 ppm above all nations while the air pollution levels caused by transport and electricity production fell behind by around 70 ppm and 60 ppm respectively. However, even electricity production which caused the least air pollution in China, had much greater degree than any pollution components in America.
Turning to Japan and Australia, these nations caused less air pollution. Japan followed the same pattern with China but to varying extent. Industry was the greatest component in air pollution of Japan at just over 40 ppm, and was followed by transport and electricity production at 30 ppm and 10 ppm respectively. On the other hand, Australia saw the balance in air pollution levels across three mentioned sources by around 19 ppm while electricity production is slightly higher than others remaining.
