The line graph illustrates changes in the proportion of household’s car ownership in four different categories in a particular European nation over a 40-year period starting in 1975.
In general, it is noticeable that different trends were observed in all the given groups throughout the period. ‘1 car’ recorded the highest percentage of car ownership for the whole period, while the opposite was true for ‘3cars’.
In the initial period, ‘1 car’ was dominant, with 45%, which was followed by a significant decline to approximately 38% in 1985. After which it steadily came back to the started figure in the last year. By contrast, ‘3 cars’ accounted for around 3% the lowest percentage of households ownership in the first year, and this figure witnessed a steady rise to nearly 10% in the final year.
At the beginning of the period, ‘no car’ took the second highest percentages, making up around 42% and there was a dramatic fall to about 21% by the end of the period. In contrast, the percentage of 2 cars ownership was around 6% in 1975, this figure saw a significant growth to almost the same as that of ‘no one’ standing at approximately 19%.
