The line graph compares the proportion of people who lived in cities in four different Asian countries between 1972 to 2020, with the projection from 2030 to 2040.
It is clear that the percentage of Urban population increased significantly in each of this country. However, Malaysia and Indonesia experienced the most dramatic changes over the period.
In 1970, Indonesia was the most dominant country with more than 30% urban population. Over the following years, this figure reached at almost 45% in 2020, after a lot of fluctuation, and it is estimated to increase up to 55% in 2040. Meanwhile, the city population of Malaysia also saw an increase of nearly 55%, by the end of the period, starting from 30% in 1972 to approximately 85% in 2040.
On the other hand, nearly 20% of people lived in cities in Thailand in 1972, while the proportion for Indonesia was just almost 15%. However these figure also saw a major increase over the period at almost 65% and 50%, respectively.
