The line chart depicts the proportion of the residents who lived in metropolises in four different nations over a 50 -year period, starting in 1970 and provide forecasts for 2030 and 2040.
Overall, it can clearly be seen from the chart that all the percentage of the population living in cities grew over the given period. In addtion, it is planned to continue to remain stable in cities in all countries, with the exception of Ecuador, which is going to rise slightly in the future.
Looking at the chart in more detail, it is evident that population living in cities in Argentina and Brazil experienced a similar trend. About 70% of Argentina’s population lived in cities in 1970, which was 20% higher than the percentage of Brazil’s population living in metropolises. After that, the proportion of population of Argentina living in cities then rose significantly to just over 90% in 2000, while Brazil’s population settling down in cities increased dramtically to around 85% in the same year. Subsequently, population living in cities in these 2 countries is predicted to remained relatively unchange in 2030 and 2040.
Turning to Uruguay and Eucador’ s population living in cities, it is clear that these figures witnessed upward trend. Approximately 20% residents in both countries lived in megacities in1970. Then, Uruaguay and Eucador’s population settling down in cities experienced a substantial rise to 70% and 50% respectively in 2000, before continuing to rise to 95% and 68% respectively in 2020. Moreover, while it is predicted that Uruguay’s population living in cities is going to stay at the same level in 2030 and 2040, the percentage of population living in cities in Eucador is going to witness a marginal rise to 70% in 2030, before continuing to increase to 80% in 2040.
