The graph shows the percentage of the population living in cities in four different Asian country namely Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, from 1970 to 2020 with a prediction for 2020 to 2040.
Overall the trends of each country are relatively similar, the figures for Malaysia and Indonesia experienced greatest increase.
Considering the greatest increases first, Starting at 30% in Malaysia in 1970, it rose gradually to almost 70%. The share of Indonesia saw the similar trend starting at around 12% in 1970, it grew to 50% in 2020. It is expected for both to increase steadily.
The number for Philippines recorded some fluctuations, starting at 30 and around 32 in 1970 and 1980, it jumpes to almost 50% in the next decade, before droping to around 40% in 2010. Yet it is projected to rise to nearly above 50% in 2040. The percentage for Thailand gradually rose from 19% in 1970 to 30% in 1990, then underwent a barely noticable growth to around 32% in 2020, however the trend is expexted to rise significantly in the next two decades.
