The given line graph is an attempt to illustrate energy consumption by fuel in the USA from 1980 to present and provide a prediction until 2030.
Although all energy sources experienced a rising trend, petrol and oil have always been the main source of energy in the USA and renewable energy has been used insignificantly.
Petrol and oil have always been the main source of energy in the USA, with 35 quadrillion units consumption in 1980, climbing to about 45 quadrillion units in 2024. This trend seems to continue increasing and will peak at 50 quadrillion units in 2030.
On the other hand, coal and natural gas were used 15 and 20 quadrillion units respectively in 1980. However both flactuated a lot in the next 35 years, coal surpassed natural gas in 2015 and reached over 25 quadrillion units in 2024. Following this, coal will rise to 30 quadrillion units in 2030, while natural gas will stay at the same amount of year 2015, with 25 quadrillion units.
All Sustainable energy sources were consumpted just under 5 quadrillion units in 1980. Nuclear power gradually increased to 7 quadrillion units in 2024 and will rise to 10 quadrillion units in 2030.
