The line graph illustrates the number of participants in five different activities—Film Club, Martial Arts, Amateur Dramatics, Table Tennis, and Musical Performances—at a center in Melbourne over a 20-year period, from 2000 to 2020.
Overall, Martial Arts had the highest participation throughout the period, while Musical Performances remained the least popular. Notably, Amateur Dramatics experienced a decline, while Table Tennis gained in popularity.
In 2000, the pastime with the most participants was Film Club, with slightly more than 60 members, while all the other clubs had fewer than 40 attendees, with a notable exception of Musical Performances, of which no one was a member. Over the following 10 years, although the figures for Film Club and Martial Arts did not change much, the number of people joining Amateur Dramatics decreased to 20 members, which was equal to that of Table Tennis. By contrast, the figures for Musical Performances experienced a significant increase, reaching slightly more than 10 members in 2010.
From 2010 onwards, the number of Film Club members remained almost constant, and it was still the club with the most members, whereas the figures for Amateur Dramatics plummeted to their all-time low at roughly around 7 members.
The number of participants for both Martial Arts and Musical Performances almost remained stable during the whole period, with approximately 38 members and 17 members, respectively. However, in the last decade of the period, the number of people who chose to play Table Tennis soared to its peak, with slightly more than 50 members, becoming the second most favorite activity in 2020.
