Overall, the usage of car increased gradually without any declining, while the reverse was true for usage of bus. However, the proportion of passengers who used tube showed mild fluctuation over the study period.
When it comes to proportion of commuters using train, in the 1960 percentage of train accounted for approximately 17%, and then figure showed significant increase reaching over 25% in 1980. However, figure declined moderately falling to approximately 22%, in 2000 subsequently it continued its downward trend in the next years and went down to 18%. There were mild fluctuations in the number of tube travel from 1960 to 2010, ranging between 27% and 20% of commuters, however the passengers using tube accounted for 20% eventually.
In 1960 the percentage of car users was the lowest category among all figures with only 7%. It was not until 1980, when figure registered a considerable rise growing to 23%. Next, the proportion of car saw a dramatic growth, from 23% to 36%, between 1980 and 2000. There was a sharp increase in car commuters between 2000 and 2010 reached a peak of 45% becoming the most dominant category. Regarding bus travel, it was the highest figure with 38% in 1960, thereafter it decreased gradually to 26% in 1980, between 1980 and 2010 it continued its downward trend falling to 9% eventually.
