Overall, cinema attendance was much higher at weekends than on weekdays throughout the period. Saturday was consistently the most popular day for going to the cinema, while Monday recorded the lowest figures. In addition, attendance on Saturday increased slightly over the three years, whereas the percentage for Monday declined gradually.
Looking first at the weekdays, the proportion of people visiting cinemas on Monday fell steadily from about 8% in 2003 to 7% in 2005 and 6% in 2007. Attendance on Tuesday remained close to 10%, rising slightly overall, while the figure for Wednesday stayed at around 9% throughout the period. Similarly, Thursday saw only minor fluctuations, increasing from approximately 10% to 11%. Friday was significantly more popular than the other weekdays, with around 16% of people attending the cinema in all three years.
At weekends, cinema attendance was considerably higher. The percentage of people going to the cinema on Saturday rose from approximately 26% in 2003 to 28% in 2007, making it the busiest day of the week. Sunday ranked second, although attendance fell marginally from about 22% to 21% over the same period.
