The given line chart illustrates the price of two different kinds of food and oil globally during 11-year period starting from 2000.
Overall, the average globall prices of both oil and food increased significantly between 2000 and 2011. Futhermore the trends for both categories were very similar, and their correction was about 93%.
In 2000, the global average oil prices was nearly 25 USD per barrel and the food price index was just under 90 points. Over the following four years, both prices remained relatively stable . However, from 2004 to 2007, there was a rise steadily and simultaneously increase. By 2007 the average oil prices had more than doubled to nearly $60 per barrel and while food prices had increased about 50 points.
Commodity prices skyrocketed from 2007 to 2008, with oil prices peaking at around $130 per barrel, and the food price index soared to 220 points. Nevertheless, by the beginning of 2009 the price of oil had droped by roughly $90 per barrel, and the food price index was down by about 80 points. Finally, in 2011, the average oil price increased once again, reaching almost 100 USD per barrel, while the food price index reached its peak at nearly 240 points.
