The line graph illustrates the proportion of household expenditure across different categories from 1965 to 2015. Overall, most spending categories showed an upward trend during the period, while the percentage allocated to savings declined significantly.
At the beginning, savings’ proportion stood at about 11%, which was the highest at the time, followed by a stable percentage until before 1990. In 1190, these figures for accommodation and savings were equal at just above 10%. However, in the rest of the period, the proportion of savings plunged to below 5%, by contrast, accommodation’s reached its peak of approximately 17%.
Regarding the statistics of transport and energy, which started from around 3%. After a minimal growth, in 1995, these numbers dipped/rose to roughly 6% in the last year. In comparison, enhancing the home was the least preference over the the survey, finally stayed at 3% in 2015. A similar pattern in recreation and food was a gradual rise to above 5% in the final year.
