The provided line graph illustrates the amount of air pollution produced by three different pollutants (transport, industry, and households) in the UK between 1990 and 2005.
From an overall perspective, it is evident that both industry and households in the UK managed to decrease their contribution to air pollution, except for the transport sector. As a result, the total air pollution also declined. It is also worth noting that households were the major contributors to air pollution over the years, while transport polluted the air the least.
As the graph shows, household pollution figures started at about 7 million tons, followed by a significant decline to 4 million tons in 1999. Then, it leveled off at 4 million tons in 2002. Afterward, the figure plummeted to just over 3 million tons in the final year. Regarding the data for the industrial sector, in the initial year, it contaminated the air approximately 5.7 million tons, but then this figure dropped suddenly to 2 million tons in the final year.
By contrast, air pollution from the transportation sector remained unchanged despite some very slight increases and decreases over the period, remaining at 1 million tons.
Regarding total air pollutants, the contaminated air remained same until 1993 at 1 million tons which was followed by slight fluctuations between 1993 and 1999. Then, it experienced a gradual decline to just below 0.1 million tons in the year 2005.
