The line chart shows the data of different types of contributors of air pollutants in the UK between 1990 and 2005.
Overall, there was a gradual decline of the amount of air pollutants over the years, and gentle fluctuations in transport and households in general.
In 1990, the total emissions from all sources reached around 7.5 million tonnes. Industry was the major pollution at that time, contributing approximately 6 million tonnes of pollutants. The transport sector and household each were at the same level of 1 million tonnes respectively.
Over the next 15 years, the amount of the combined air pollutants decreased significantly, reaching under 4 million tonnes by 2005. The industrial sector showed a reduction in their emission, which fell to about 2 million tonnes. The amount of households emissions in the UK fluctuated gently from 1990 to 1999 at 1 million tonnes. However, since the year 1999, it dropped sharply to zero in 2005. In contrast, the transport sector since 1999 has remained stable at about 1 million tonnes in 2005.
