The line graph illustrates the three different ways people buy music: streaming, downloading and purchasing CDs. Overall, streaming shows a rising trend, while both downloading and CED sales have declined steadily. Although CD purchase has been themost common methods, its popularity ended with the lowest percentage. In contrast, the percentage of streams has started low but ended up with the highest.
In 2011, the majority of people chose to buy CDs with a percentage of around 55 percent; however, the method experienced a downward trend, with a gradual decline to approximately 25 percent by the end of the period.
On the other hand, streams were the least chosen way to buy music, with only around 5 percent at the beginning but increased dramatically over the time frame, surpassing CD sales in 2016 and downloads in 2017. The percentage peaked by 2018, ending at 40 percent.
Turning to downloads, the percentage hit its highest point at 43 percent in 2014 but started to fall afterwards. The figure remained slightly higher than that of CD purchases afterwards. The sales dropped to 30 percent in 2018, reaching its bottom.
