Overall, employment rates for males and females have increased across the board in the last decade. The UK saw a dramatic increase in male employment, while New Zealand saw a dramatic increase in employment amongst the female populace. Male employment was the highest in Iceland, while female employment was the highest in Switzerland.
Australia, Switzerland and Iceland saw around a 15% rise in male employment between 1995 and 2005, which raised it to approximately 69%, 78% and 82% by 2005, respectively. Employment rates in New Zealand and the US rose by around 10% from 1995, leaving both countries at right around 70% male employment by 2005. In 1995, the UK saw a dramatic increase in male employment (by over 15%) resulting in it reaching around 71% by 2005.
All six countries recorded and increase by around 15% in female employment by 2005, from 1995. Switzerland had the highest female employment rates at around 55% and 66% in 1995 and 2005, respectively. UK and US follow Switzerland at 61% and 60% female employment rates by 2005, respectively. New zealand had the lowest female employment in both years, and rises to 41% by 2005.
