The given line graph illustrates the oil consumption rate in four different countries between 2009 and 2030.
Overall, USA was consistently the dominant consumer of oil and is expected to remain the leading position in future years despite an slight increase. Meanwhile, the amount of oil consumed in Middle East and China followed an upward trend whereas the reverse trajectory was registered in the remaining nations.
Regarding countries representing increases in oil usage, the USA led the chart with the daily oil consumption being at nearly 9 million of barrels per day initially. Thereafter, its figure grew continually and peaked at 10 million of barrels in 2015, which was a short-lived increase when the consumption of oil in the USA declined and is projected to level off at 8 million of barrels in 2030. Following an almost similar pattern, Western Europe and Japan also consumed less oil across the timeframe with its figure gradually halving from 4 million of barrels in 2009 to 2 million of barrels in 2030, being predicted to secure the lowest position as the least oil consumed areas.
In contrast, an opposite trend was witnessed in Middle East and China. Despite sharing the same starting point with China 2 million of barrels per day, the former demonstrated a twofold uptick in oil consumption in 2025 (at around 4 million of barrels per day) before being expected to decline slightly to around 3 million of barrels. Likewise, a more consistent growth was registered in the latter’s oil consumption which ascended from 2 to a prediction of 3 million barrels per day in 2030, nearly ending with the same point as China.
