The bar graph illustrates the ratio of employment in six countries in 1995 and 2005. In general, both men and women experienced a slight increase in employment numbers, but men reached the highest employment rates in each nation.
In 1995, Iceland had the highest percentage of employed men at about 71%, whereas the other five countries had rates below 65%. Over the following decade, male employment rates saw a slight increase in all nations, with Iceland leading at over 80%, followed by Switzerland at 78%, and the remaining four countries ranging from 69% to 72%.
On the other hand, the percentage of women employed was below 60% in 1995, with Australia and New Zealand having rates of not more than 30%. By 2005, all countries had seen an increase in female employment, with rates exceeding 40% except for Australia. The highest female employment rate was in Switzerland at 68%, followed by the UK and the USA at around 62%. Despite the increase in female employment, men still maintained higher employment ratios compared to women.
