Germany’s expenditure on books fluctuated between around 80 and 90 million US dollars from 1995 to 2003, before it saw a moderate increase to approximately 95 million US dollars in 2005 and remained the highest figure. That of France, which ranked in second, climbed gradually over the entire period from around 57 to about 75 million US dollars.
The figure for Italy shifted between approximately 55 and just under 50 million US dollars for the first 6 years, before rising steadily to around 61 million US dollars at the end of the period. Austria’s value went up moderately from just under 30 to about 40 million US dollars in 2001, before surging to 71 million US dollars in 2005, surpassing that of Italy and becoming the third highest figure.
