The graph above gives information on the money spent on books in Germany, France, Italy and Austria between 1995 and 2005.
Firstly, we see a clear trend that all the countries given in the graph spent more money on books in 2005 than they did in 1995. Some countries showed little changes, for example, Italy spent 50 million dollars on books in 1995. The number increased only by approximately 11 million dollars by 2005. On the other hand, money spent on books in Austria increased greatly between 2001 and 2005. In the four-year period, the number grew from 40 million dollars to 71 million dollars. In Germany and France, the numbers remained more or less the same with some fluctuations over the years.
In France, the increase was mostly stable. The number increased by 5 million dollars between 1995 to 1999, 10 million dollars between 1999 to 2003, and another increase by 5 million dollars between 2003 and 2005. France, along with Austria, is the only country which kept a stable increase. In Germany, the number grew to 90 million dollars from 1995 to 1999. However, the number dropped by 5 million dollars between 1999 and 2003.
Overall, all four countries ended the year 2005 spending more money on books than they did back in 1995. Austria and France are the only countries which did not show any decline. Germany and Italy were more unstable and the numbers fluctuated throughout the years.
