In detail, people in Germany spent more money on books than any other country, with 80 million recorded in the first year, which was roughly 20 million more than that of France, the second highest country. After fluctuating from 1995 to 2003, between 80 and 90 million, Germany increased to around 95 million in the last year. The number for France rose gradually to just below 80 million in the last year.
Data for Austria, although starting as the lowest, increased dramatically to more than three times of its initial data at just below 70 million, surpassing France and becoming the third in the year of 2005. As for Italy, the amount were relative stable, varying between around 50 and 60 million.
