The line graph depicts the quantity of time to manufacture a car in the U.S., namely at Nissan, Daimler Chrysler, General Motors, and Ford between 1998 and 2002.
Overall, Nissan and General Motors reached their best results by the end of the analysed period, with the share of production time for General Motors being as low as Nissan’s however, they overtook it and became a leader.
First of all, the amount of time taken to produce a vehicle at Nissan reduced from under 38 hours in 1998 to 24 hours in 2000, slumping remarkably. In addition, the figure dwindled gently between 2000 and 2002, a nearly eightfold reduction. As for General Motors, starting from 32 hours in 1998 and decreasing by 2 hours every year, they reached 24 hours. The figure shows a diagonal fall.
In the first half of the analysed period, the quantity of time for Daimler Chrysler showed a slight decline, amounting to a reduction from 34 hours to little above 32 hours while Ford, after rising minimally, experienced a period of stability. Notably, Daimler Chrysler, after remaining at this level, dropped greatly to 28 hours in 2002. Moreover, the amount of hours to manufacture a car at Ford, after increasing gently, declined slowly, accounting for 26 hours in 2002.
