Overall, chicken popularity saw significant growth compared to beef and lamb which declined, while fish consumption remained constant.
Looking in more detail, in 1979 the figure for beef was the most consumed at around 200 grams, followed by lamb and chicken at 150 grams per person in a week, while fish stood at only 50 grams. In 1989 the consumption of chicken surpassed beef’s popularity at around 200gr consumption and continued growing until the end of the year and reached the peak number of 250 gr per week, whereas beef popularity dropped almost double in 2004 compared to the first year.
In contrast with chicken, while it had a similar amount of number consumption in the first year, lamb consumption did not have positive growth. It experienced a reduction by almost half the number to around 50 grams at the end of the year after 1989. However, the figure for fish was still the lowest consumption and remained stable at 50 grams per week from 1979 until 2004.
