The line graph illustrates the amount of four kinds of dairy products that were consumed in the USA from 1970 to 2010. Units are measured in pounds per capita.
Overall, the consumption of cheese and yogurt rose markedly over the period given, whereas full-fat ice cream intake decreased. Low-fat ice cream consumption consistently remained at a low level.
With regard to the amount of cheese eaten, it began at around 8 pounds and then more than five years later overtook full-fat ice cream as the dominant product, before reaching its peak of above 20 pounds in 2010. Similarly, the consumption of yogurt increased significantly from just 0 pounds to just under 10 pounds in the final year.
By contrast, full-fat ice cream consumption stood at just over 10 pounds in 1970, making it by far the most widely used spread. However, this figure fell steadily over the following decade, decreasing to under 10 pounds by 2010. The consumption of low-fat ice cream fluctuated slightly, at close to 5 pounds, showing relatively stable consumption figure throughout the period.
