The given line chart illustrates, release of harmful gas from 2000 to 2040 per person.

Firstly, there is regular decline in carbon dioxide emission in UK, reduced from 11 to approximately 9 tonnes till 2040. Secondly, Sweden shows fluctuations, before 2010 rate of emission increases dramatically, and after 2010 it decreases to approximately 5 tonnes.

On the other hand, Italy and Portugal pollution get hype with time, starting from 4 metric tonnes in 2000 in italy and reached roughly till 6 metric tonnes in 2040, and in case of Portugal it started from 1 tone to 5 tonnes of Co2 emissions.

In conclusion, there is a decrease in discharge of hazardous gases in countries like UK and Sweden as they get control over pollution and limit the gas output, while other two contries; Italy and Portugal do not get control over air pollution, and the rate of discharge increases over time.
